Exceptional Palace of sober medieval construction, with a historical date of construction in the year 900 A.D.. Founded by the Navarrese Infante Fortún I Garcés, son of the King of Navarra García I Iñiguez, married to Mrs. Berenguela de Ozaeta. It was built to defend the territory of Álava, against the constant attacks of Muhammad I of Córdoba, who briefly captured Fortún I Garcés.
This unique Palace of 1100 m2, emblazoned with an important coat of arms of military nobility, originally masterfully sculpted in siliceous stone, hence its good conservation. It stands on the main façade, flanked on its sides by two circular towers with loopholes, similar to those of the solar house of Loyola de Azpeitia, Guipuzcoa. The current Palace was remodeled around 1549, carried out by D. Juan Beltran de Ozaeta Gallastegui y Recalde, holding the Knighthood of the Order of Calatrava, Corregidor of León, Trujillo and Salamanca.
